D-SNP: 19 plans
For people with both Medicare and Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid).
Aurora spreads across three counties and has a higher uninsured rate than Colorado as a whole. This page sorts out which plan list applies to you and where to get coverage before 65.
Check your county first. Part of Aurora lies in Adams County and Douglas County. If your address is there, use that county’s plan list: Adams County guide, Douglas County guide.

CMS Medicare Advantage and Part D Landscape, contract year 2027. A plan's fit depends on your doctors and prescriptions; Lisa checks both before you choose.
The Census Bureau counts about 394,400 Aurora residents, roughly 49,000 of them 65 or older, with a median household income of about $88,400. 13.7% of residents have no health insurance, against 7.7% statewide. The State Demography Office puts about 341,100 residents in Arapahoe County, 56,200 in Adams County and 4,300 in Douglas County.
Most Aurora addresses use the Arapahoe County plan list, shown here; the Adams and Douglas county parts use their own lists. Three Aurora hospitals appear in the CMS file: University of Colorado Hospital (5 out of 5), VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (5 out of 5) and The Medical Center of Aurora (4 out of 5).
How Lisa helps here. Aurora clients work with Lisa by phone or video, or at the Brighton office. She checks your county, your doctors and your prescriptions, and helps family members under 65 with Connect for Health Colorado.
12.4% of Aurora residents are 65 or older, against 15.6% for Colorado, and 13.7% have no health insurance.

North Aurora is home to the Anschutz Medical Campus, with two hospitals on or beside it: UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital at 12605 East 16th Avenue and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center at 1700 North Wheeling Street. UCHealth says the hospital's providers are faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The VA medical center runs a 24 hour emergency department and clinics that range from cardiology and oncology to hemodialysis and spinal cord injury care.
One detail is easy to miss: in the CMS hospital file, both campus hospitals carry Adams County addresses, while most Aurora homes sit in Arapahoe County. Your Medicare Advantage plan list is set by the county you live in, but a plan's network can still include hospitals across the county line. If University of Colorado Hospital is where your specialists practice, confirm that the hospital and each of those doctors are in the plan's network before you enroll, not after a referral.
The RTD R Line light rail runs through Aurora, and Fitzsimons Station is the stop for the medical campus. RTD lists the R Line as a 22 mile line that opened on February 24, 2017, serving Aurora City Center, the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Fitzsimons Life Science District. From Fitzsimons Station, UCHealth lists a free courtesy shuttle to the campus every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Since RTD's service change on June 7, 2026, the R Line also continues south past Lincoln Station to RidgeGate Parkway in Lone Tree, with new stops at Sky Ridge and Lone Tree City Center. That opens a transit route between Aurora and the south metro hospitals, which matters if a plan you like leans on providers down there. The R Line also links to the A Line for Denver International Airport.
If you are 60 or older and transit is not workable, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), the Area Agency on Aging for all three of Aurora's counties, offers no-cost transportation to qualifying older adults through its Choice Services program. Start with its information line at 303-480-6700.
Aurora is home to Buckley Space Force Base, and military retirees face a Medicare rule that civilians do not. TRICARE says TRICARE For Life applies if you are TRICARE eligible and have Medicare Part A and Part B, regardless of age or where you live. Coverage is automatic once both parts are in place, and it starts the first day your Part A and Part B are in effect. Without Part B, TRICARE For Life does not apply, so delaying Part B is rarely a small decision for a TRICARE retiree.
TRICARE also notes that TRICARE For Life coverage does not extend to family members. A spouse with a different birthday or eligibility status may need a separate plan, and the timing for each person can differ by years. Lisa can map out how Medicare, TRICARE For Life and any VA benefits fit together for each person in your household, by phone or video.
The City of Aurora runs the Aurora Center for Active Adults at 30 Del Mar Circle, open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with fitness programs, special events, older adult programs and volunteer work. The center's page also links to the Aurora Commission for Older Adults.
For Health First Colorado or a Medicare Savings Program, apply through the human services office of the county your Aurora address is in (Adams, Arapahoe or Douglas), or online through Colorado PEAK. For the plan choice itself, Lisa compares plans free and with no obligation, by phone or video, and Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) can answer general questions.

Colorado totals are the sum of all 64 Colorado counties in the same Census release; a statewide median is not computed here. Survey estimates for small towns carry wide margins of error.
Medicare Advantage plans are approved by county, so Aurora residents see the Arapahoe County list (unless their address is in another county part). Figures from the CMS Landscape file for contract year 2027; Special Needs Plans are counted separately.
Two ways to count "$0 premium" plans: 30 have a $0 Part C premium, and 27 have a $0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D (22 of those include drug coverage; 5 have no drug coverage, so no Part D premium). The average premium figures likewise show the Part C premium and the combined Part C + D premium separately. Star ratings shown are 2026 ratings: CMS published 2027 ratings on October 8, 2026, and the tables on this site still show each plan’s 2026 rating until its data snapshot is refreshed. Check a plan’s 2027 rating on Medicare.gov Plan Finder.
PPO plans are the largest group here (13 of 33), and 5 plans have no drug coverage.

3 Medicare-certified hospitals are listed, 2 with a 5 of 5 CMS overall rating; whether each is in a plan’s network is a separate question.

An SNP is a Medicare Advantage plan limited to people who meet a condition. They are left out of the counts above because not everyone can join.
For people with both Medicare and Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid).
For people with qualifying chronic conditions: Cardiovascular Disorders; Chronic Heart Failure; Diabetes Mellitus.
For people who live in, or need the level of care of, a long-term care facility.
Plan choice follows the conditions you actually live with, because they decide which specialists and drugs you need covered.
Compared with the Colorado county average, Aurora reads higher on diagnosed diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, copd, adults 18 to 64 without health insurance and stroke.

CDC PLACES: Local Data for Better Health, Place Data, 2025 release (2023 survey estimates), retrieved 2026-10-14. Model-based small-area estimates of crude prevalence among adults 18 and over, not a count of local diagnoses. Crude rates follow the age mix of a place: an older community reads higher on most conditions. Colorado figure: average of the 64 Colorado counties, weighted by adult population.
Of the conditions above where Aurora reads higher than the Colorado county average, high blood pressure, diagnosed diabetes and stroke are among those a chronic-condition Special Needs Plan can cover. The chronic-condition Special Needs Plans on the Arapahoe County list are built around: Cardiovascular Disorders; Chronic Heart Failure; Diabetes Mellitus. If you live with one of those, a C-SNP may be worth a look; you need a qualifying diagnosis to join.
Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30, 2026. It lists what changes on January 1, 2027: premium, deductible, out-of-pocket limit, copays, drug list and network. Compare it line by line, or bring it to Lisa.
Counting plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, the Arapahoe County list goes from 61 plans in 2026 to 56 in 2027, and the average in-network out-of-pocket limit moves from $6,472 to $7,145.
| Measure | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Plans with drug coverage (SNPs included) | 61 | 56 |

| Maximum Part D deductible allowed by CMS | $615 | $700 |
| Part D out-of-pocket cap | $2,100 | $2,400 |
These counts cover plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, so they differ from the headline count of 33, which leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Arapahoe County for 2027.
8 plans on the 2026 Arapahoe County list end with no similar plan in the county, including Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), Select Health Medicare Flex (HMO), Select Health Medicare Active (HMO). 4 more plans end while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO-POS)). Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Arapahoe County guide.
If your plan is not renewing: you receive a non-renewal letter in October. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period runs through the end of February 2027. Confirm your dates on Medicare.gov. The official Medicare & You handbook explains each option.
New to terms like MOOP, HMO-POS or D-SNP? They are explained in plain English on the Arapahoe County page and in the guide Medicare Advantage plan types.
Aurora uses the Arapahoe County plan list for most addresses. It has 33 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 (Special Needs Plans not included) from 9 organizations. Of those, 30 have a $0 Part C premium, and 27 have a $0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D (22 of those include drug coverage; 5 have no drug coverage, so no Part D premium). You still pay the Part B premium, which is $202.90 a month in 2026; the 2027 amount is announced around November 2026. Source: CMS 2027 Landscape file.
It depends on where in Aurora you live. Most of the city is in Arapahoe County, the northern part is in Adams County, and a small southern part is in Douglas County. Each county has its own plan list, and the guides for all three are linked on this page.
Yes. VA health care and Medicare are separate programs, and many veterans keep both. VA drug coverage counts as creditable coverage, so some veterans choose a Medicare Advantage plan without drug coverage. Lisa explains how the two fit together for you.
Counting Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, Arapahoe County goes from 61 plans in 2026 to 56 in 2027. (The headline count of 33 plans on this page leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage, which is why the numbers differ.) The CMS crosswalk shows 8 plans ending with no similar plan in the county, 4 plans ending while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (members must enroll in it themselves), 3 plans folding into another plan automatically, and 10 new plans. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Arapahoe County for 2027. Your plan’s Annual Notice of Change lists what changes for you on January 1.
Census figures (ACS 2020 to 2024 5-year estimates) show 13.7% of Aurora residents with no health insurance, against 7.7% for Colorado. People under 65 can shop for coverage on Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s own marketplace; open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026.
