The community

Keenesburg at a glance

The Census Bureau counts about 2,300 Keenesburg residents, with a median household income of about $84,000; with a town this small the survey estimates carry wide margins. In the CDC PLACES estimates, Keenesburg adults run above the Colorado county average on high blood pressure (30.7%), heart disease (6.2%) and COPD (7.1%).

Keenesburg residents choose from the Weld County plan list. For 2027 the CMS crosswalk shows plans leaving the county and new plans arriving, and one carrier leaves Weld County altogether. The new plans are listed below, and the plans that end are summarized in the changes section. The nearest hospitals in the CMS file are in Brighton and Greeley.

How Lisa helps here. Keenesburg clients meet Lisa at the Brighton office, by phone or by video. Bring your Annual Notice of Change and she will walk through what moves on January 1 in plain English.

Where did the name Keenesburg come from?

From a cattle stop. The railroad station here was called Keene, and it existed mainly to load cattle. When the town got a post office in 1907, the name became Keenesburg so mail would not be confused with Keene, Nebraska. Keenesburg incorporated in 1919, according to Weld County's history of its towns, and cattle shaped it from the start.

That setting is why distance comes up in every Keenesburg Medicare conversation. The town is small, the county is large, and the nearest hospitals in the CMS file are in Brighton and Greeley. The right plan for you is the one that works with the clinic down the street and with the hospital you would be taken to.

In that file, the Brighton hospital is Intermountain Health Platte Valley Hospital, and Greeley has UCHealth Greeley Hospital and Banner North Colorado Medical Center. Know which of them your plan includes before you need one. Emergency care is covered in or out of network, but follow-up visits and planned surgery usually have to be in network on a Medicare Advantage HMO.

Is there a doctor in Keenesburg, and will a Medicare plan cover it?

There is a primary care clinic in town. The national provider registry run by CMS lists Keene Clinic at 190 S. Main Street in Keenesburg as a primary care clinic. If that is where you go, it is the first name to check against any plan.

With Original Medicare, Medicare.gov explains, you can use any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, and a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy helps with the costs Original Medicare leaves to you. With a Medicare Advantage HMO, you generally use the plan network for non-emergency care, and in some plans the primary care doctor you choose also decides which hospitals and specialists you can use. In a small town with one clinic, that single check can decide the whole choice.

This is also the season to check it again. A plan can add or remove providers during the year, and the Weld County list has new plans arriving and plans ending for 2027. Lisa looks up the clinic, your specialists and your pharmacy for each plan you are considering, face to face at her Brighton office, or on a call or video visit.

Can I get to a Denver specialist without driving?

Keenesburg is a stop on Bustang Outrider, the state's regional bus service run by the Colorado Department of Transportation. CDOT lists the Sterling to Denver route stopping at Keenesburg Town Hall, then at Denver International Airport and Denver Union Station; the airport stop was added in December 2024. Check the current schedule and service days on RideBustang before you plan a trip around it.

A bus link to Denver only helps with medical care if the doctor at the other end is covered. Weld County plans are filed for Weld County, but their networks can reach into the Denver metro, and the CMS file lists large hospitals there, such as University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. If you see a specialist in Denver or Aurora today, ask for that name to be checked on every plan you compare, not only the doctors close to home.

What should a Keenesburg household do before December 7?

If you already have a Medicare plan, three short steps cover most of it:

  • Read the Annual Notice of Change your plan mailed this fall, and look for changes to your premium, your drug list and your doctors.
  • Confirm that Keene Clinic, or whichever clinic you use, and your nearest hospital are still in network for 2027.
  • Call the free state SHIP line at 1-888-696-7213 or Lisa at (303) 887-8584 if anything changed. The Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 to December 7, 2026.

What is common in Keenesburg

Plan choice follows the conditions you actually live with, because they decide which specialists and drugs you need covered.

Compared with the Colorado county average, Keenesburg reads higher on diagnosed diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, coronary heart disease, copd and adults under 65 without insurance.

Why this matters for plan choice

Keenesburg runs above the Colorado county average on high blood pressure, diagnosed diabetes, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease and stroke. The chronic-condition Special Needs Plans on the Weld County list are built around: Cardiovascular Disorders; Chronic Heart Failure; Diabetes Mellitus. If you live with one of those, a C-SNP may be worth a look; you need a qualifying diagnosis to join.

What changes for 2027

Weld County plans: 2026 to 2027

Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30, 2026. It lists what changes on January 1, 2027: premium, deductible, out-of-pocket limit, copays, drug list and network. Compare it line by line, or bring it to Lisa.

Counting plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, the Weld County list goes from 53 plans in 2026 to 42 in 2027, and the average in-network out-of-pocket limit moves from $6,757 to $7,710.

These counts cover plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, so they differ from the headline count of 25, which leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Weld County for 2027.

13 plans on the 2026 Weld County list end with no similar plan in the county, including Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), Select Health Medicare Flex (HMO), Select Health Medicare Active (HMO). 4 more plans end while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and Select Health Medicare Essential (HMO)). Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Weld County guide.

If your plan is not renewing: you receive a non-renewal letter in October. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period runs through the end of February 2027. Confirm your dates on Medicare.gov. The official Medicare & You handbook explains each option.

How do I know if my Keenesburg Medicare plan is changing for 2027?

Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30, 2026. If the plan is ending, you also get a non-renewal letter. The changes section on this page lists the Weld County plans that end or merge for 2027 according to the CMS crosswalk.

Are new Medicare plans in Weld County a good choice?

A new plan has no star rating yet, so you judge it on its network, premium, out-of-pocket limit and drug list. That can be fine, but check that your doctors, pharmacy and prescriptions are covered before you switch.

What changes for Medicare plans in Keenesburg in 2027?

Counting Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, Weld County goes from 53 plans in 2026 to 42 in 2027. Provenance

Sources and methodology

How the figures are derived

  • Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
  • "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
  • The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
  • When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
  • We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
