The community

Lochbuie at a glance

The State Demography Office puts about 8,500 Lochbuie residents in Weld County and about 240 in Adams County. The Census Bureau counts 9.6% of the town as 65 or older, with a median household income of about $97,000. CDC PLACES estimates that 18.7% of adults aged 18 to 64 have no health insurance.

Most Lochbuie addresses use the Weld County plan list, shown on this page; the Adams County part uses the Adams County list. A lower out-of-pocket limit matters most when you expect regular care, which is why the table below sorts the Weld County plans by that limit. The closest hospital in the CMS file is Platte Valley Hospital in Brighton.

How did a 1961 mobile home park become the Town of Lochbuie?

The town's own history starts with Gordon McClain, who owned land along the Weld and Adams county line next to what was then Interstate 80 South. In 1961 he developed a 12-acre mobile home subdivision called Spacious Living, nicknamed Space City. In 1974 residents voted to incorporate so they could improve their water and sewer systems, and they named the new town Lochbuie after the Isle of Mull home of McClain's grandparents. In Scottish Gaelic the name means Lake of the Fair-haired Clan.

The highway became Interstate 76 in July 1976, and the town grew along it into both counties. Weld County's history notes that the 1995 opening of Denver International Airport helped that growth. Today the town describes itself as central to Boulder, Denver, Aurora and Greeley.

I still work in the metro area. Do I have to take Medicare at 65?

Not always. Lochbuie sits on the I-76 corridor between the airport and the rest of the metro, and if your job comes with health benefits, that changes the timing. Medicare.gov explains that if you or your spouse are still working and covered by a group health plan through that job, you may be able to wait to sign up for Part B without a late enrollment penalty. The size of the employer matters, so ask the benefits office whether you need Part A and Part B at 65.

When the job or the coverage ends, Medicare gives you 8 months to add Part B without a penalty. That window starts when the work or the coverage stops, even if you take COBRA. Retiree coverage and COBRA are not the same as coverage from current work, which is the trap: missing the window can mean a permanent penalty. Lisa maps those dates for you before you leave a job, in Brighton or on a phone or video call.

Which county help do I use if my address is in Lochbuie?

Lochbuie was incorporated in both Weld County and Adams County, and several kinds of free help are organized by county, not by town. Your Medicare Advantage list follows your county, and so do these:

  • Free Medicare counseling (SHIP): for 2026 and 2027 the state names UCHealth Aspen Club/Senior Services on the Weld side, (970) 495-8558, and Benefits In Action on the Adams side, (720) 221-8354. Either way, SHIP also answers statewide at 1-888-696-7213.
  • Area Agency on Aging: the Weld County Area Agency on Aging in Greeley, (970) 400-6950, for a Weld County address; the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) for Adams County.
  • Health First Colorado and Medicare Savings Program applications: Weld County Human Services, (970) 400-6012, with an office in Fort Lupton; or Adams County Human Services, whose main office is at 11860 Pecos Street, Westminster, (720) 523-2000.

Where do Lochbuie seniors get together, and is lunch part of a plan?

The Afterglows Senior Center at 501 Willow Drive is the town's own spot. The town lists drop-in games, puzzles and conversation on Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon, a Friendly Fork lunch on Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. served by the Weld County Area Agency on Aging for people 60 and older (reserve by 11 a.m. the Monday before at (303) 659-8262, suggested donation $5.00), and a potluck lunch on Fridays at noon.

That Tuesday lunch is a county program, not an insurance benefit, and it does not depend on which Medicare plan you have. That is worth knowing when a plan advertises extras. Compare the core first: the county on your address, your doctors at Intermountain Health Platte Valley Hospital in Brighton or wherever you actually go, your prescriptions and the yearly out-of-pocket limit. Then weigh the extras.

Lochbuie is one of the closest towns to the Headwaters office in Brighton, so an in-person review is easy to fit in. Bring your Medicare card, your drug list and the Annual Notice of Change if you already have a plan.

What is common in Lochbuie

Plan choice follows the conditions you actually live with, because they decide which specialists and drugs you need covered.

Crude rates follow the age mix of a place: an older community reads higher on most conditions. Colorado figure: average of the 64 Colorado counties, weighted by adult population.

Why this matters for plan choice

Lochbuie runs above the Colorado county average on diagnosed diabetes. The chronic-condition Special Needs Plans on the Weld County list are built around: Cardiovascular Disorders; Chronic Heart Failure; Diabetes Mellitus. If you live with one of those, a C-SNP may be worth a look; you need a qualifying diagnosis to join.

Counting plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, the Weld County list goes from 53 plans in 2026 to 42 in 2027, and the average in-network out-of-pocket limit moves from $6,757 to $7,710.

13 plans on the 2026 Weld County list end with no similar plan in the county, including Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), Select Health Medicare Flex (HMO), Select Health Medicare Active (HMO). 4 more plans end while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and Select Health Medicare Essential (HMO)). Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Weld County guide.

If your plan is not renewing: you receive a non-renewal letter in October. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period runs through the end of February 2027. Confirm your dates on Medicare.gov. The official Medicare & You handbook explains each option.

FAQ

Lochbuie Medicare questions

How many Medicare Advantage plans are available in Lochbuie for 2027?

Lochbuie uses the Weld County plan list for most addresses. It has 25 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 (Special Needs Plans not included) from 8 organizations. Of those, 23 have a $0 Part C premium, and 20 have a $0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D (15 of those include drug coverage; 5 have no drug coverage, so no Part D premium). You still pay the Part B premium, which is $202.90 a month in 2026; the 2027 amount is announced around November 2026. Source: CMS 2027 Landscape file.

Is Lochbuie in Weld County or Adams County?

Both. Most of the town and almost all residents are in Weld County, and a small part is in Adams County. Medicare Advantage plans follow the county on your address, so a Weld County address uses the Weld list and an Adams County address uses the Adams list.

What is the lowest out-of-pocket maximum on a Lochbuie Medicare Advantage plan?

The table on this page lists the Weld County plans with the lowest in-network out-of-pocket limits for 2027. A low limit usually comes with other trade-offs, such as a narrower network or higher copays, so compare the whole plan with your doctors in mind.

What changes for Medicare plans in Lochbuie in 2027?

Counting Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, Weld County goes from 53 plans in 2026 to 42 in 2027. (The headline count of 25 plans on this page leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage, which is why the numbers differ.) The CMS crosswalk shows 13 plans ending with no similar plan in the county, 4 plans ending while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (members must enroll in it themselves), 3 plans folding into another plan automatically, and 9 new plans. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Weld County for 2027. Your plan’s Annual Notice of Change lists what changes for you on January 1.

What does local data say about health coverage in Lochbuie?

Census figures (ACS 2020 to 2024 5-year estimates) show 6.2% of Lochbuie residents with no health insurance, against 7.7% for Colorado. People under 65 can shop for coverage on Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s own marketplace; open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026.

Provenance

Sources and methodology

How the figures are derived

  • Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
  • "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
  • The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
  • When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
  • We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
