Henderson at a glance
Because Henderson is unincorporated, the Census Bureau does not publish city figures for it. CDC PLACES does publish estimates for ZIP code 80640, home to about 13,100 people, and they show obesity at 32.0% and adults 18 to 64 without insurance at 16.3%, both above the Colorado county averages.
Henderson residents choose from the Adams County plan list for 2027. The nearest hospitals in the CMS file are Platte Valley Hospital in Brighton and HCA HealthOne Mountain Ridge in Thornton. If you like the lower cost of an HMO but want some room to go outside the network, the HMO-POS table on this page is a good place to start.
How Lisa helps here. Henderson is minutes from the Brighton office. Lisa meets Henderson clients in Brighton, by phone or by video, and helps with both the first move onto Medicare and the yearly review that follows.
Henderson has no city hall. Who do I call about Medicaid or senior services?
Adams County. The county lists Henderson, with Strasburg and Watkins, among its unincorporated communities, so the services a city would normally run come from the county instead. The Adams County Government Center is at 4430 South Adams County Parkway in Brighton (303-659-2120), a short drive from Henderson.
Health First Colorado, the state Medicaid program, is handled by Adams County Human Services. Its main office is the Pete Mirelez Human Services Center at 11860 Pecos Street in Westminster (720-523-2000), and it also keeps a Brighton Workforce and Business Center at 36 South 18th Avenue. For aging services, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is the Area Agency on Aging for Adams County and seven other metro counties; it offers Medicare help by phone, email or in person, ride requests to the doctor, and a long-term care ombudsman.
Why this matters for Medicare: if Health First Colorado confirms that you qualify for Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program, your plan choices change, and some Henderson residents may become eligible for a Dual Special Needs Plan on the Adams County list. Lisa starts with the county letter you received. Adams County Human Services also lists a Veterans Office, which helps if you are sorting out VA benefits alongside Medicare.
I farm or run my own business near Henderson. How do I handle health coverage before and at 65?
Adams County describes itself as founded on a history of agriculture, and that history shows up on the Henderson side of the county. Riverdale Regional Park, home of the Adams County Fair, is on Henderson Road (9755 Henderson Road, with a Brighton mailing address); the 2026 fair ran July 29 to August 2.
People who farm, ranch or run a small business often have no employer plan. Before 65 that usually means buying a plan through Connect for Health Colorado, the state marketplace, where financial help depends on household income. Open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026. Self-employed income can swing a lot from year to year, so it pays to update your estimate when a harvest or a contract changes it.
At 65, the rule to remember is timing. If you have no employer coverage based on current work, sign up for Medicare Part B during your Initial Enrollment Period. Waiting can mean a late penalty that lasts as long as you have Part B, and a gap before coverage starts. If you are covered through a working spouse's employer plan instead, ask that employer in writing how its plan pays alongside Medicare before you decide whether to take Part B now or later.
- Mark the month you turn 65; your window opens three months before.
- Keep your marketplace plan until Medicare is confirmed, then cancel it.
- Tell Connect for Health Colorado when your Medicare starts.
Where can Henderson seniors get Medicare counseling and a ride to appointments?
The closest city senior center is the Sue Corbett Active Adult Center at Eagle View in Brighton, 1150 Prairie Center Parkway, where adults 55 and older have priority for programs. The City of Brighton says a SHIP counselor visits Eagle View monthly for one-on-one Medicare help, booked at 303-655-2077. Adams County residents can also call Benefits in Action at 720-221-8354, a nonprofit that helps with Medicare and benefit applications.
For care, Salud Family Health runs a Brighton clinic at 1860 Egbert Street with a pharmacy, and its enrollment specialists help with Health First Colorado and Connect for Health Colorado applications. When you need a ride, DRCOG lets you request one to the doctor's office.
Henderson is minutes from the Headwaters office in Brighton, and Lisa meets Henderson clients there in person, or by phone or video if a drive into town does not fit the day.

Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Adams County guide.

How the figures are derived
- Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
- "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
- The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
- When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
- We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
