The community

Westminster at a glance

The State Demography Office puts about 70,400 Westminster residents in Adams County and about 45,600 in Jefferson County. The Census Bureau counts 15.2% of the city as 65 or older, about 17,500 people, with a median household income of about $100,300.

Medicare Advantage plans follow the county on your address. The Adams County list is shown here; if your address is in the Jefferson County part of the city, use the Jefferson County guide. The two lists overlap heavily but are not identical. St. Anthony North Hospital at 14300 Orchard Parkway is the Westminster hospital in the CMS file, rated 5 out of 5.

Which county office handles Medicaid and aging services for my side of Westminster?

It depends on the county line, just like your Medicare plan list. On the Adams County side, Health First Colorado eligibility is handled by Adams County Human Services, whose main office happens to be in Westminster: the Pete Mirelez Human Services Center at 11860 Pecos Street (720-523-2000). The county resource guide notes that Benefits in Action, a nonprofit that helps with Medicare and benefit applications, keeps hours in the Community Partners Suite there.

On the Jefferson County side, the county office is Jefferson County Human Services at 900 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden (303-271-1388), open Monday through Thursday; Jefferson County notes that its buildings are closed on Fridays while online services stay available. Either way, the Area Agency on Aging is the same: Jefferson County names the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) as its Area Agency on Aging, and DRCOG serves Adams County too.

This is not just paperwork. If you qualify for Health First Colorado or a Medicare Savings Program, your plan options change, so the right county office is part of getting the right plan.

Where do Westminster's active adults gather, and can a Medicare plan help pay for it?

The city calls The MAC, at 3295 West 72nd Avenue (303-426-4310), Westminster's hub for an active adult lifestyle. It has a weight room, an indoor walking track, an aerobics and dance studio, a billiards room and indoor pickleball courts, plus fitness classes and educational seminars. It is open from 6:30 a.m. most weekdays and on weekend mornings. Westminster also runs its own public library system through the city's Parks, Recreation and Libraries department.

Many Medicare Advantage plans include a fitness benefit, but each plan names its own participating gyms and programs. If The MAC or a class there is part of your week, ask whether the plan's fitness program covers it before you treat the benefit as a reason to switch. The same goes for dental, vision and hearing extras: compare them only after the doctors and drugs check out.

Which hospitals and clinics should a Westminster resident check in a plan network?

CommonSpirit St. Anthony North Hospital on Orchard Parkway is the Westminster hospital in the CMS file, which still lists it under its former Centura Health name. Hospitals on both sides of town are worth checking: the CMS file lists UCHealth Broomfield Hospital at 11820 Destination Drive and Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital at 12911 West 40th Avenue in Wheat Ridge (its campus since 2024; the CMS file still shows the former 38th Avenue address) to the west, and HCA HealthOne Mountain Ridge in Thornton to the east.

For primary care, the Adams County resource guide lists Clinica Family Health Services at 8510 North Bryant Street in Westminster and Corvida Health Clinic at 8300 North Alcott Street, by appointment only. RTD's B Line connects the Westminster station at 72nd Avenue with Union Station; trains run about once an hour.

Write down every hospital and clinic you have used in the last two years, then check each one against each plan. Lisa Asmussen works with Westminster clients by phone or video, and she confirms your county before comparing a single plan.

How old is Westminster?

Its roots are farms and orchards, not subdivisions. The Westminster Historical Society history published by the city says the first permanent settler, Pleasant DeSpain, built his home in 1870 on 160 acres near today's 76th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard and planted grain and apple and cherry orchards. The railroad reached DeSpain Junction in 1881, and in 1885 developer C.J. Harris bought out struggling homesteads and sold smaller tracts to fruit farmers, which is how the town became Harris before it took the Westminster name. Today the city covers 34 square miles across Adams and Jefferson counties, which is why the county check comes first.

What changes for 2027

Adams County plans: 2026 to 2027

Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30, 2026. It lists what changes on January 1, 2027: premium, deductible, out-of-pocket limit, copays, drug list and network. Compare it line by line, or bring it to Lisa.

Counting plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, the Adams County list goes from 64 plans in 2026 to 59 in 2027, and the average in-network out-of-pocket limit moves from $6,497 to $7,199.

These counts cover plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, so they differ from the headline count of 36, which leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Adams County for 2027.

8 plans on the 2026 Adams County list end with no similar plan in the county, including Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), Select Health Medicare Flex (HMO), Select Health Medicare Active (HMO). 4 more plans end while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO-POS)). Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Adams County guide.

If your plan is not renewing: you receive a non-renewal letter in October. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period runs through the end of February 2027. Confirm your dates on Medicare.gov. The official Medicare & You handbook explains each option.

Is St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster rated by CMS?

What changes for Medicare plans in Westminster in 2027?

Counting Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, Adams County goes from 64 plans in 2026 to 59 in 2027. (The headline count of 36 plans on this page leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage, which is why the numbers differ.) The CMS crosswalk shows 8 plans ending with no similar plan in the county, 4 plans ending while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (members must enroll in it themselves), 3 plans folding into another plan automatically, and 10 new plans. What does local data say about health coverage in Westminster?

Census figures (ACS 2020 to 2024 5-year estimates) show 8.2% of Westminster residents with no health insurance, against 7.7% for Colorado. People under 65 can shop for coverage on Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s own marketplace; open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026.

Provenance

Sources and methodology

How the figures are derived

  • Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
  • "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
  • The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
  • When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
  • We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
