The community

Erie at a glance

The State Demography Office puts about 22,900 Erie residents in Weld County and about 15,900 in Boulder County. The Census Bureau counts a median household income of about $173,300, the highest of any community in this guide, and just 2.9% of residents without health insurance.

Medicare Advantage plans follow the county on your address. Weld County has fewer plans for 2027 than Boulder County, so an Erie household on the Boulder side may see more choices. The nearest hospitals in the CMS file are Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette and the two Longmont hospitals.

How Lisa helps here. Erie clients work with Lisa by phone or video, or at the Brighton office. She confirms which county your address is in, then narrows the list to plans that keep your doctors.

My Erie address could be in Weld or Boulder County. Which county offices serve me?

The county line through Erie decides more than your Medicare Advantage plan list. It also decides which public office helps you, and the two sides of town use different ones:

  • Aging and disability resources: Weld County ADRC at 970-346-6952, or Boulder County ADRC at 303-441-1617.
  • Help paying Medicare costs: Colorado’s Medicare Savings Programs are applied for through the Department of Human Services in your county of residence. That is Weld County Housing and Human Services, 970-356-4000, or Boulder County Housing and Human Services, 303-441-1000.

Who in Erie can point me to the right place?

The Town of Erie runs its own Older Adult Resource Program for residents 60 and over and their families. Call 303-926-2738 for referrals on financial, housing, in-home, legal and other needs; the program also runs a loan closet, a lock box program and the Blue Envelope Program, which helps people with dementia or other communication conditions share key medical information with officers. An Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Columbine Lounge at the Erie Community Center (register at 303-813-1669).

Lisa works with Erie clients by phone or video. Her plan review is free with no obligation. She confirms your county first, because the same street address question that sends you to the right county office also decides which plan list she compares for you.

What does the Erie Community Center offer adults 60 and over, and does any of it touch my insurance?

The Erie Community Center at 450 Powers Street is the hub. The Columbine Lounge is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., free of charge, with coffee, games, computers and a book and puzzle exchange. Every Thursday at noon, The Friendly Fork, the Weld County senior nutrition program, serves lunch there, with a $5 suggested donation for people 60 and over; reservations go to 303-926-2569 by Tuesday evening. The Erie Never Stops Walking group meets indoors every Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., free for membership pass holders, and the town offers roughly 70 day trips along the Front Range each year.

Two of those connect to coverage decisions:

  • Fitness: if a gym or fitness benefit is part of why you like a Medicare Advantage plan, ask whether the Erie Community Center participates before you count on it. Participating locations differ by plan.
  • Travel: Erie’s Active Adult program also runs extended group trips with outside travel partners. The Colorado Division of Insurance notes that Medigap policies do not cover dental, vision or hearing aids, but some do cover travel outside the U.S. If an overseas trip is on your calendar, check what your Medigap policy or Medicare Advantage plan pays abroad, and whether separate travel insurance makes sense. Lisa can quote travel coverage too.

How do Erie residents get rides to medical appointments?

The county line shows up here as well. Via Mobility Services offers paratransit rides and travel training for older adults and people with disabilities (303-444-3043). Mobility for All, run by Boulder County, is for Boulder County residents only (720-564-2218). 60+ Ride, which offers free door-to-door rides to adults 60 and over, is for Weld County residents only (970-352-9348, weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). If you depend on rides to reach a specialist in Lafayette or Longmont, make sure that specialist is in the network of the plan you choose.

What changes for 2027

Weld County plans: 2026 to 2027

Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30, 2026. It lists what changes on January 1, 2027: premium, deductible, out-of-pocket limit, copays, drug list and network. Compare it line by line, or bring it to Lisa.

Counting plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, the Weld County list goes from 53 plans in 2026 to 42 in 2027, and the average in-network out-of-pocket limit moves from $6,757 to $7,710.

These counts cover plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, so they differ from the headline count of 25, which leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage. Clear Spring Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Weld County for 2027.

13 plans on the 2026 Weld County list end with no similar plan in the county, including Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), Select Health Medicare Flex (HMO), Select Health Medicare Active (HMO). 4 more plans end while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and Select Health Medicare Essential (HMO)). Members are not moved into the new plan automatically; to keep it, enroll in the new plan ID by December 7, 2026. The full list is on the Weld County guide.

If your plan is not renewing: you receive a non-renewal letter in October. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7, 2026), and a Special Enrollment Period runs through the end of February 2027. Confirm your dates on Medicare.gov. The official Medicare & You handbook explains each option.

Provenance

Sources and methodology

How the figures are derived

  • Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
  • "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
  • The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
  • When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
  • We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
